Course Overview
CLASS 10 BIOLOGY
the concepts of life processes, the human nervous system, reproduction, heredity and evolution, and the environment and natural resources.
Chapter-1 Life processes
the existence of life on the planet earth is mainly based on certain functions and processes. There are certain basic vital processes, which are essential for an organism to stay healthy and to maintain the proper functioning of the body’s organ systems. They are necessary for survival. These basic essential activities performed by an organism are called life processes.
CONTENTS
1.1 Autotrophic Nutrition
1.2 Cellular Respiration
1.3 Human Digestive System
1.4 Human Excretory System
1.5 Human Respiratory System
1.6 Introduction to Life Process
1.7 The Human Heart
1.8 Transportation of Substances and Waste Materials in Plants
Chapter-2 Control and coordination
the control and coordination take place through the nervous system and the endocrine system that produce and secrete hormones. The five sense organs in our body, eyes, ears, nose, tongue and skin are called receptors and these organs functions by receiving information from the environment around us.
CONTENTS
2.1 Coordination in Plants.
2.2 Human Brain.
2.3 Human Endocrine System.
2.4 Nervous System in Animals.
2.5 Spinal Cord and Reflex Action
Chapter- 3 How do organisms reproduce
The organisms reproduce in two ways: Asexual Reproduction– In this process, only a single parent is involved and no gamete formation takes place. Sexual Reproduction– In this process, two parents are involved and gamete formation takes place. Meiosis is an important step in sexual reproduction.
CONTENTS
3.1 Asexual Reproduction.
3.2 Human Reproductive Organs.
3.3 Reproduction in Animals: An Overview
3.4 Reproduction in Plants
3.5 Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Birth Control Measures
Chapter-4 Heredity and evolution
The transmission of characters or traits from parents to their offspring (children) is termed as heredity. Genetics is the study of heredity and other variations. An inherited trait that children get from their parents is a genetically determined feature that makes humans distinguishable from person to person.
CONTENTS
4.1 Evolution and Classification
4.2 Evolution and Speciation
4.3 Heredity And Variation: An Overview
4.4 Mendel’s Experiments
4.5 Sex Determination in Humans
Chapter- 5 Our envoirment
The environment includes our physical surroundings like air (or atmosphere), water bodies, soil (land) and all the organisms such as plants, animals, human beings and micro organisms like bacteria and fungi (called decomposers).
CONTENTS
5.1 Activities Affecting the Environment
5.2 Ecosystem
Chapter-6 Sustainable management of natural resources
Sustainable management of natural resources means conserving the resources to use them efficiently and avoid their misuse for individual purposes.
CONTENTS
5.1 Coal and Petroleum
5.2 Importance of Forests
5.3 Sustainable Management of Natural Resources
5.4 Water
